Moving with children and managing all the usual household tasks can be a lot to juggle. Having a moving crew take care of the transportation made the day easier for our family.
I was glad to have help disassembling and moving some of our larger furniture. Handling those pieces ourselves would have taken considerably more time and effort.

Moving in Manhattan: What Our NYC Movers Plan For

Most Manhattan moves are shaped by the building and the block more than the distance. A two-mile move from the Upper West Side to Chelsea can take longer than a trip to Westchester if the elevator is not booked or the truck has nowhere to stand. Here is what our crews plan before move day.

Co-op and Doorman Building Rules

Most managed buildings in Manhattan ask for a certificate of insurance, a reserved freight or service elevator and moves inside set weekday hours. Some co-ops also ask for a move deposit or a signed building agreement. We send the COI to your managing agent ahead of time, confirm the elevator window with the super and size the crew so the job fits inside it.

Walk-Ups and Tight Stairwells

Pre-war walk-ups in the East Village, Chinatown and Harlem have narrow stairs and sharp turns. We measure sofas, dressers and headboards before move day, take apart anything that will not clear a landing and pad the banisters and door frames so nothing gets marked on the way down.

Parking and Loading on Busy Streets

Curb space is the hardest part of most Manhattan moves. We check alternate side parking days, bus lanes and loading zones at both addresses, send the truck early to hold a spot and keep the load moving so the street is not blocked longer than it has to be.

What a Typical Manhattan Move Looks Like

A common job is a one-bedroom in an Upper East Side doorman building moving to a two-bedroom in Chelsea. A week out we confirm the COI and elevator times for both buildings. On the day, the crew protects the hallways and elevator, wraps the furniture, loads inside the booked window and sets up the new apartment room by room the same afternoon.

Licensed for Local and Interstate Moves

ZeroMax Moving and Storage holds NYS DOT 40574 for moves within New York, plus US DOT 3224565 and MC 1009800 for interstate moves, and is fully insured. Our Brooklyn base is a short drive from Lower Manhattan, so early starts are routine for our crews.
